Welcome to My Country Cottage.

I have been so excited about starting this new blog. I am country cottage at heart. Honestly, I don't know why I waited so long to do this. We moved into Maywood cottage in 2006 and I must say I have been stuck between styles. I love the primitive style; the worn, often tattered look of yesteryears goods but my heart really belongs to the cottage style. Its mix and match of old and new has always appealed to me. I love the floral, stripes, checks, paisleys....well, just all of it. Throw in a few farmhouse items and I'm happy.

While the style of this house is cottage there is still a whole lotta cottage that needs to happen. Now that I have made up my mind what direction I want to go there’s going to be a lot happening here at Maywood Cottage. Now to make up my mind where to start. I have the bones of a cottage style garden with all the roses, hydrangea, lavender, lilies, and wisteria, to name a few; perhaps I will start in the garden. But then again, I love to paint and create so maybe I will start inside the house with a new coat of cottage style color. And, I have been scouring the local antique and vintage shops, making my list of things I want to add here and there to make that comfy cottage home. Well, you will just have to visit often to see what is happening at Maywood Cottage.

  3. I know exactly how you feel. I've been going through the same thing. Back in the 80's...I decorated in the country style that was in and then in the early 90's...I decorated in the country cottage style. Then more recently, I started changing to the primitive style...but I realize it was not me. I had a garage sale and got rid of alot of stuff. I kept the old weather items that are light in color and I painted some items that weren't so old. A friend told me that she thought my style was country with a rustic cottage farmhouse feel to it.
I'm looking forward to following you as you turn your home into the country cottage of your dreams!

  8. Thanks bunches everyone! LOL Helen, you may be right!

Maybe being stuck between the two styles is because they both use time worn items that we love with the exception one style is darker and the other lighter....I know I will be incorporating some prims because I love em!

  10. I'm sure glad to hear that I'm not the only person stuck between two styles. I've always called my style "primitive with some pink and aqua thrown in" but now I think "Shabby" is what I should say. LOL
